A XX. század második felétől a formatörténeti kutatás feltételezte az elhívástörténet műfajának létezését, miután egy adott sémát fedeztek fel a bibliai elhívástörténetekben. Az általam vizsgált perikópa (Ex 2,23–4,17) is egy ilyen elhívástörténetként van számon tartva. Az Ex 2,23–4,17 azonban a elhívástörténet ismerős elemein túl számos egyéb részletet tartalmaz, amely kérdéseket vet fel a műfaj helyes azonosítását illetően. E kérdésekben vizsgálódásom alapjául Erhard Blumnak a Tóra kialakulására vonatkozó megállapításai szolgálnak, aki hagyománytörténeti modelljében két kompozíció létét igazolja a Tórában. A két kompozíció sajátos nézőpontja érvényesül Mózes elhívástörténetében is, lehetővé téve egy jellegzetesen deuteronomista alapszöveg rekonstruálását, mely a formatörténeti elemzés alapjául szolgál.

In this article we shortly introduce T. S. Eliot, noting some major themes he addresses, particularly in relation to religious faith and the search for meaning in life. In the second and third sections our article concentrates on the 1934 church pageant, called ‘The Rock’. This drama was only published once and is hard to find. However, the poetry Eliot included in the drama, called ‘Choruses from The Rock’, have been reprinted and included in various volumes so that these are readily available. But among those people who have read some or all of the ten Choruses from The Rock, very few have ever found a copy of the play in which these poems were situated.1 We present quotations from the ten choruses, with a few annotations at times concerning the context. In the fourth section we look at various aspects of Eliot’s Christology as found in The Rock.

The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it sets the historical context in which Aphrahat wrote his Demonstrations and deals with the interesting relationship between his writings, ‘against the Jews’ and the Sassanian persecution of Christians. It also treats his refutation of the Jewish charges. Secondly, it addresses his ‘unique’ view of christology which is not in line with the Nicene decision concerning one aspect yet at the same time it is congruent with it. The paper also tries to point out that his view on christology was ‘unique’ but not exceptional in the Early Church.
