Psalm-singing in the Community of Therapeutae Based on De vita contemplativa by Philo of Alexandria. The Therapeutae’s ascetic devotion is characterized not only by searching the scriptures, meditation and prayer but also by singing of hymns and psalms. Hymns were composed by the principals of the community, they were those who taught the community members to sing them and they continually enriched the hymnal with new ones. The Essenes’ and Therapeutae’s psalm-singing indicates first of all the common Old Testament origin. However these religious communities had different self-identity from that of the normative Jews and this identity required for a special psalm-poetry to be accomplished. The Therapeutae’s psalms remind us of the church psalm-tradition characterized, just like the Essene hymns, by responsive singing and refrains.

Az újrainduló folyóirat első számában szükségesnek tartom tisztázni a „Teológia és közélet” rovat elnevezését, illetve azt, hogy milyen közlemények kerülnek ide. Főleg a „közélet” jelentésköre szorul magyarázatra.

A téma iránti érdeklődésemet az evangéliumi egyházakban bevett szokás keltette fel. Mégpedig az, hogy számukra nagyon hangsúlyos a gyülekezeti tagok bizonyságtevő szolgálatának gyakorlása. Ennek a szolgálatnak megvan a helye az istentiszteleti alkalmon is. Abban áll, hogy az a gyülekezeti tag, aki megtapasztalta Isten jelenlétét, munkáját életében, erről a tapasztalatról a gyülekezeti alkalmon, is beszámol. Az a kérdés merült fel bennem, hogy az evangélikus és általában a többi történelmi protestáns egyházban miért nincs ilyen szolgálat. Nem tartjuk fontosnak a bizonyságtevést? Tartózkodunk a fogalomtól, és inkább nem használjuk, nehogy félreértsenek. Lehetséges, hogy azért, mert az ilyen jellegű bizonyságtétel nem mindig építő jellegű? Vagy éppen túl elfogult?
