The person of Abraham was not only of great importance to the Jewish people of the Old Testament, but he is also one of the defining figures of Christian culture. This is because the patriarch's attitude, which the sacred writer expresses in words in Genesis 15:6, was presented as an example to be followed for the chosen people in the past, and is presented to the Christian person today. This attitude, which Abraham showed towards God, is summarized in a single phrase: Abraham believed. Through the lens of the Old Testament, we will examine this expression more closely, and especially in the context of Gen 15:1–6, we seek the answer to our main question: What did Abraham's faith encompass?

„Észak felől támad a veszedelem e föld minden lakosára…” - hirdette Jeremiás próféta az ítéletet Júda JHVH-tól elfordult népének. De annak ellenére, hogy több próféciája is arról szólt, hogy JHVH egy északi nép által fogja megbüntetni bűnös népét, mégsem nevezte meg konkrétan az ítélet végrehajtóját. Így megválaszolatlan kérdést hagyott az utókorra, amelyre a bibliakutatók igyekeztek választ adni. Ebből fakadóan több elmélet is napvilágot látott az északi ellenség beazonosítását illetően, de a témát kutató teológusok nem jutottak közös nevezőre.
