I invite the reader to take a journey into the theological world of two little treatises written by one of the most interesting ecclesiastical figures of the fifth century coming from the Antiochene tradition: Theodoret, Bishop of Cyrus.

My dissertation presents the life of György Verestói, bishop of the Reformed Church in Transylvania between 1760 and 1765. His life is a representative example of a successful clerical career of his time. The dissertation contains the translation of Verestói’s autobiography from Latin to Hungarian. This autobiographic document dates to the last year of his service (late 1764 or early 1765) and presents the cardinal dates and events of his life. Furthermore, I investigate the activity of György Verestói as a bishop. On one hand, I aimed to reconstruct what kind of duties and authority a bishop had in the middle of the 18th century in Transylvania. On the other hand, I wished to evaluate how Verestói fulfilled this office. The main sources for my investigation are archival documents: synodal protocols, the official correspondence between the bishop and the Főkonzisztórium (the leading organization of the church) and personal letters.

Az idén száz éve, 1916. április 8-án született Nagy István ahhoz az erdélyi lelkipásztor-generációhoz tartozott, amely a két világháború közötti ébredési mozgalom bibliaköreinek, illetve az 1921-ben megalakult Ifjúsági Keresztyén Egyesület (IKE) tavaszi és nyári konferenciáinak bibliás, hitvallásos és építő légkörében nevelkedett.

The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it sets the historical context in which Aphrahat wrote his Demonstrations and deals with the interesting relationship between his writings, ‘against the Jews’ and the Sassanian persecution of Christians. It also treats his refutation of the Jewish charges. Secondly, it addresses his ‘unique’ view of christology which is not in line with the Nicene decision concerning one aspect yet at the same time it is congruent with it. The paper also tries to point out that his view on christology was ‘unique’ but not exceptional in the Early Church.

A dolgozat két részre oszlik. A dolgozat első részének az a célja, hogy ismertesse a Marosvásárhelyi Kollégium megalakulását, s bemutassa a kollégiumban uralkodó állapotokokat a második világháború után, melyben helyt kellett állnia a következő fejezetben tárgyalt jeles személyiségnek, Kováts Benedeknek. A második részben Kováts Benedek önéletírása kerül előtérbe. Naplójegyzete alapján, ifjúságának legfontosabb eseményei követhetőek nyomon. Bemutatásra kerül családja, különösen nagyszülei, akik nagy hatással voltak rá, a sokrétű és fáradságot nem ismerő munkássága, melyet a Marosvásárhelyi Kollégium tanáraként vitt véghez, s végül pedig, nyomon követhető, a szabadkőművesekhez való csatlakozása.
