In the past decades, research has raised the idea of a theology of the Septuagint (LXX) on various occasions. Important works were recently published on this topic in the Handbuch zur Septuaginta and the Septuagint and Cognate Studies series. The general theological tendencies of the LXX are identified by scholars in eschatology, messianism, anti-anthropomorphism and angelology. These tend to all be regarded as further developments of the theology of the Hebrew Bible (HB). However, one can trace the evolution of these and other main topics of the LXX in the New Testament (NT) and in the later apostolic writings as well. Based on three concise case studies, I point out the evolution of theological ideas from the HB through the LXX up to the NT in this paper.

A Paul Eber életművét tárgyaló tanulmánykötetre és benne a gothai Forschungsbibliothek állományában található levelezésének leírására a wittenbergi magyar coetusra vonatkozó kutatásaim közben bukkantam rá. Korábban Egri Lukács ismeretlen levelét már közöltem ebből az anyagból. A címzett, Paul Eber (Kitzingen, 1511. november 8. – Wittenberg, 1569. december 10.) ebben az időben teológiaprofesszor, a városi templom első lelkésze és Szászország szuperintendense volt, s Melanchthont követve elsősorban közvetítő szerepet próbált betölteni az orthodox lutheránusok és a kriptokálvinisták között. Ugyanakkor – Melanchthonhoz hasonlóan – Eber soha nem állt nyíltan a svájci teológia mellé, úrvacsoratana mérsékelt lutheránus álláspontot tükrözött. Abban is Melanchthon nyomában járt,4 hogy jó viszonyt ápolt a magyar diákokkal és patrónusaikkal. A levelek abban a helyzetben íródtak, amikor Luther reformátortársának 1560-ban bekövetkezett halála után megpróbálta továbbvinni az örökséget.
