The text above is the Regulations of the Reformed College Teachers drawn up in 1786 by the board of the College of Kolozsvár (Cluj). The 1780s heralded the era of educational reform, marked by the Habsburg Empire’s ruler mandating a centralisation of the educational system. In response, the Reformed Church of Transylvania embarked on an extensive overhaul of its collegiate structure and public education. These regulations were distinctive, echoing the spiritual heritage bequeathed by nobility and monarchs. Notably, they were exclusively designed for the youth of noble lineage, which likely led to their limited application.

A reformkorban Magyarország számos iskolájára jellemző volt az, hogy egy-egy tanév önképzőköri munkáját a diákok felnőttek bevonásával kötetbe tömörítették, és nyomtatott formában közzétették. Ez a fajta olvasóközönség-kialakítási szándék foglalkoztatta a nagyenyedi diákokat is. Dolgozatomban a nagyenyedi Bethlen Gábor Kollégium reformkori önképzőkörének irodalmi termését elemzem. Virágkosár címmel három diák-önképzőköri gyűjtemény jelent meg az 1835, 1836 és 1837-es tanévekben. A kötetek szemléletváltás eredményeként jöhettek létre: megjelenésüket a felvilágosodás korabeli iskolareform, illetve olyan pedagógusok munkássága készítette elő, akik az anyanyelvhasználatot támogatták.

Psalm-singing in the Community of Therapeutae Based on De vita contemplativa by Philo of Alexandria. The Therapeutae’s ascetic devotion is characterized not only by searching the scriptures, meditation and prayer but also by singing of hymns and psalms. Hymns were composed by the principals of the community, they were those who taught the community members to sing them and they continually enriched the hymnal with new ones. The Essenes’ and Therapeutae’s psalm-singing indicates first of all the common Old Testament origin. However these religious communities had different self-identity from that of the normative Jews and this identity required for a special psalm-poetry to be accomplished. The Therapeutae’s psalms remind us of the church psalm-tradition characterized, just like the Essene hymns, by responsive singing and refrains.
