Este o senzație teribilă pentru predicatorii practicanți să constate că metodele testate și ani de zile funcționale par să fie învechite, iar tipurile de predicări care păreau altădată eficiente sunt acum întâmpinate cu priviri plictisite și puterea lor de motivare de odinioară pare să fi dispărut. În astfel de momente, pastorii și specialiștii în omiletică încep să caute idei noi și inovatoare, pentru a putea pre-dica cu succes Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu. În bisericile protestante mainstream americane (bisericile metodiste, epis-copale, lutherane, prezbiteriene, etc.) această perioadă a fost numită „turnura narativă”. Părea că acesta ar fi fost răspunsul adecvat la multele probleme din predicarea americană care – s-a spus – a intrat în criză în anii '60 și '70.

Theis paper analyses the concept of “imago Dei” based on the 6th answer of the Heidelberg Catechism. I chose this topic as it is one of the most controversial questions of systematic theology. If one browses through the dogmatic and ethical works written from the earliest period of Christianity to the most recent times, they will find a large variety of answers. All of these attempt to explain what the writer of Genesis meant by the expression na‘aśęh ’ ādām beṣalmenu kidemutenu. The Heidelberg Catechism deals with this topic in the 6th answer where the authors attested that God did not create the first human being godless and malicious. After stating that as a matter of fact, God created man according to his own image and likeness, the Catechism explains the term imago Dei in a twofold way: first, it seeks to define the inner content of the image and similitude of God, and secondly it expands upon the purpose of man given by God as the image of his creator within the creation.

This volume contains selected papers from the broader field of History of Christian Doctrines, and more specifically from Patristics and Reformation studies, but also from the border between them. Most of them were written in the academic year 2014-2015, during my MA studies in the field of Patristics at the Theological University of the (vrijgemaakt) Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, in Kampen. The main topic of the MA programme was the Baptism in the Early Church, therefore the most of these papers presents various aspects of this question. In the following few paragraphs I will present short summary of each paper from this volume.

A tanulmány célja bemutatni az 1Móz 1,26-ban olvasható kijenetés (teremtsünk embert a mi képünkre és hasonlatosságunkra) héber és görög szövege közötti kapcsolatot.

Mindennapi életünk, kultúránk, történelmünk, a magunkról való gondolkodás, az önreflexió alapvetően elbeszélő jellegű, azaz narratív. Mi emberek narratívában képzeljük el saját világunkat, életünket, és identitásunkat. A múltunkra való visszatekintés, a jelen és a jövőkép értelmezése, az időiség struktúrája egyértelműen történetszerű létmegértéshez vezet minket. Nagy ereje van a történeteknek, talán az egyik olyan hatalom, amit az idő vasfoga nem kezdett ki. A narratíva egy olyan eszköz, ami minden kultúrában és minden generációban érvényesülni tud. Azonban a narratív gondolkodás már túlnőtt az egyszerű történetek értelmezésén és
rendszerezésén.

Dolgozatomban ízelítőt szeretnék nyújtani a homiletikának erről a számunka oly távolinak tűnő, de sok újdonságot, érdekességet és a magyar unitárius homiletikával számos hasonlóságot tartalmazó oldaláról. A négy nagy fejezet során röviden ismertetni szeretném az amerikai unitárius univerzalista vallás és ezen belül a XX. századi amerikai unitárius homiletika történetét, egy ismertetőt szeretnék nyújtani az ehhez fűződő unitárius istentisztelet részeiről, formáiról, valamint elméletéről és dolgozatom központi elemeként meg szeretném ismertetni az óceánon túli prédikációírás és –mondás rejtelmeit. Végül, mivel, ahogy látni fogja a kedves olvasó a homiletikát nem lehet elválasztani a liturgikától, dolgozatomba liturgikai elemeket is beépítettem, ezekkel próbálva egy világosabb képet nyújtani arról, hogy mi képezi az amerikai unitárius vallás alapját.
