Humanity is constantly evolving, which exerts a powerful impact on religion and the church as well. The postmodern era, which spread from the second half of the 20th century, presents a new direction that the church must respond to. The research examines how the gospel can be effectively conveyed in the postmodern world, with special consideration for the relationship between youth and the church, as well as the resulting challenges and opportunities. Based on my university studies and experiences, my viewpoint is that postmodern thinking essentially questions traditional values and systems. It emphasizes diversity, relativism, and subjectivism. This new approach shapes people's worldviews and influences their everyday decisions. The central premise of the paper is that the church has long functioned as a proponent of absolute truth and universal values.

This volume contains selected papers from the broader field of History of Christian Doctrines, and more specifically from Patristics and Reformation studies, but also from the border between them. Most of them were written in the academic year 2014-2015, during my MA studies in the field of Patristics at the Theological University of the (vrijgemaakt) Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, in Kampen. The main topic of the MA programme was the Baptism in the Early Church, therefore the most of these papers presents various aspects of this question. In the following few paragraphs I will present short summary of each paper from this volume.

Erőss Lajos, a méltatlanul elfeledett dogmatikus és püspök emlékét néhány utcanév őrzi Debrecenben, valamint Püspökladányban, ahol az általános iskola névadója is lett. Erőss Lajos a Debreceni Református Kollégiumban tanult. A lelkipásztori szolgálatban eltöltött évei után ismét visszakerült az alma mater falai közé. A dogmatikatanári katedráról a lehető legnagyobb tudással igyekezett felvértezni diákjait a lelkipásztori szolgálatra. Rövid időn belül pedig a Tiszántúli Református Egyházkerület püspökének választották meg. Hirtelen bekövetkezett halála után ránk maradt befejezetlen életműve lehet oka annak, hogy élete és munkássága feldolgozatlan maradt. Ennek rendszerezése, értékeinek felmutatása pedig az utókorra vár.

Mivel a lelkészi önazonosság alakulási folyamatának korai felnőttkori aspektusaira korábban igyekeztem különböző pszichológiai iskolák vizsgálati elveit rávetíteni, úgy találtam, hogy a teológusjelöltek esetében az ezt megelőző élettörténeti időszak jellemző tényszerűségeit hasznos lenne megvizsgálni. Ezt abból a megfontolásból tehetjük miszerint ezt a fejlődési fázist vizsgálva, rálelhetünk azokra a motivációs tényezőkre, amelyek nélkülözhetetlen foglalatát jelentik a további szakmai identitásfejlődésnek. Feltételezésünk szerint a szociális és kulturális környezet nagymértékben befolyásolja a motivációs tényezők alakulását.
