Theis paper analyses the concept of “imago Dei” based on the 6th answer of the Heidelberg Catechism. I chose this topic as it is one of the most controversial questions of systematic theology. If one browses through the dogmatic and ethical works written from the earliest period of Christianity to the most recent times, they will find a large variety of answers. All of these attempt to explain what the writer of Genesis meant by the expression na‘aśęh ’ ādām beṣalmenu kidemutenu. The Heidelberg Catechism deals with this topic in the 6th answer where the authors attested that God did not create the first human being godless and malicious. After stating that as a matter of fact, God created man according to his own image and likeness, the Catechism explains the term imago Dei in a twofold way: first, it seeks to define the inner content of the image and similitude of God, and secondly it expands upon the purpose of man given by God as the image of his creator within the creation.

This volume contains selected papers from the broader field of History of Christian Doctrines, and more specifically from Patristics and Reformation studies, but also from the border between them. Most of them were written in the academic year 2014-2015, during my MA studies in the field of Patristics at the Theological University of the (vrijgemaakt) Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, in Kampen. The main topic of the MA programme was the Baptism in the Early Church, therefore the most of these papers presents various aspects of this question. In the following few paragraphs I will present short summary of each paper from this volume.

My dissertation presents the life of György Verestói, bishop of the Reformed Church in Transylvania between 1760 and 1765. His life is a representative example of a successful clerical career of his time. The dissertation contains the translation of Verestói’s autobiography from Latin to Hungarian. This autobiographic document dates to the last year of his service (late 1764 or early 1765) and presents the cardinal dates and events of his life. Furthermore, I investigate the activity of György Verestói as a bishop. On one hand, I aimed to reconstruct what kind of duties and authority a bishop had in the middle of the 18th century in Transylvania. On the other hand, I wished to evaluate how Verestói fulfilled this office. The main sources for my investigation are archival documents: synodal protocols, the official correspondence between the bishop and the Főkonzisztórium (the leading organization of the church) and personal letters.

Dolgozatomban Verestói György életét és püspöki tevékenységét vizsgálom. Célom feltérképezni, hogy Verestói György önéletírásában hogyan foglalja össze életét, valamint a szűk öt évet felölelő püspöki tevékenysége során (1760–1765) milyen szerepet töltött be az egyház vezetésében. Munkám elsősorban forrásfeltáró és -rendező jellegű, mivel eddig ki nem adott és fel nem dolgozott levéltári adatokra (jegyzőkönyvek, levelezések) épül. Ezek közül kiemelkedő Verestói György latin nyelvű önéletírásának fordítása, amelyet teljes terjedelemben közlök a dolgozatban. Noha Török István már lefordította az említett kéziratot, a szöveget több szempontból (nyelvezet, szöveghűség, pontosság) is indokolt volt újrafordítani, illetve a szélesebb közönség számára is elérhetővé tenni. A dolgozat továbbá részletesen foglalkozik a püspöki tisztség kérdésével.

A méltóságosan és idegenűl jellemzés mellett azonban ugyanolyan találónak érezzük az „alázatosan és szív közelben" megfogalmazást is. Alázatos írás is a Kis Dogmatika.

A János evangéliumában található Paraklétoszról szóló logionok egyedülállók az Újszövetség irodalmában. Noha mind a szinoptikus alkotásokban, mind a levelekben találkozunk pneumatológiai vonatkozásokkal, ennek ellenére, az 1Jn 2,1-en kívül, egyik irat sem rögzít Paraklétoszra vonatkozó feljegyzéseket. A Paraklétosz-beszédeket a jánosi pneumatológia alapdokumentumának lehet tekinteni. Az evangéliumon belül nem itt-ott elszórva olvasunk a Paraklétoszról. A Paraklétoszról szóló tanítás a búcsúbeszédek (Jn 14–16) jól körülhatárolt egységéhez tartozik. A beszédekben elhangzó tanítások hasonlóak, mégis nehezen megfogható dolgokat mondanak el. Mivel nem egyetlen egységben jelennek meg, ezért a Paraklétoszról szóló ismeretközlés árnyalt és összetett. Ezek a logionok a Paraklétosznak például nemcsak az Atyához és a Fiúhoz való viszonyára világítanak rá, hanem emellett hangsúly kerül a többféle funkció bemutatására is (pl.
