Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

Makkai Sándor írásaiból, a róla szóló méltatásokból egy újítani kész, nagyszerű és merész lelket ismerünk meg. Azok az irányelvek és programok, amelyeket közel egy évszázada fogalmazott meg, ma is újszerűen, frissen, egészen közelről hatnak, de mindaz a sok ötlet és terv, amely megszületett benne, ma sem valósult meg igazán. Maga Makkai Sándor is sokat tett azért, hogy beszédei, tanulmányai, prédikációi, programadásai, célkitűzései ne csak szavak maradjanak. Az új nemzeti-történelmi helyzethez nemcsak megírta a „magunk revíziója” égető szükségességét, hanem revízió elé állította önmagát is, s újra és újra visszanyúlt a tiszta Kijelentésig, a Szentírásig. Így a „revízió” Makkainál az önmagunkkal való szembenézést jelenti, vagyis azt, hogy életünket gyökereiből kell megújítanunk, nem pedig azt a határok visszaállítását, de még az ígért jogok érvényesítését sem, amelyekről az erdélyi magyarság évtizedekig nem mondott le.
