The General Synod of 1820 is the subject of my Master's thesis. I believe that the topic and the sources it reveals are indispensable for the research of the Transylvanian Reformed Church history. I will start from the life of the church in the 19th century and move towards the source that I have uncovered. In the excavated source, points appear which are connected with the liturgical history, the history of the order, and the rules and customs of burial. A slice of this will be presented and unpacked in this essay. The information and the improved readability of the record will be useful for all those who wish to enrich their knowledge of church history.

Not all pastor's children remain close to the Church, despite the fact that they grew up in a religious environment and had the example and model of Christian living. The theoretical objective of my thesis is to explore pastor's children's motivations for living a pious life. For there can be external and internal motivation. The external motivation is when the pastor's child practices godly living and godly speaking, but not from an internal motivation, not from faith. They are not living a godly lifestyle because they feel they need to and because it is of value to them, but they are just living up to expectations. They behave and speak as expected by their parents, their congregation or their environment. They live godly lives either for external recognition and reward, such as the recognition of the church community or the pride of their parents, or perhaps to earn God's approval.

A vizitációs jegyzőkönyvből kiderül a majd 200 évvel ezelőtt élt református emberek élete sem volt mindig játék és mese. Ha a Marosi Református Egyházmegyére gondolok és az 1823-as években lakó erdélyi református emberek, akkor kijelenthető, hogy sok vihart kellett kiállniuk. Azonban hitüket soha nem adták fel, nem veszítették el. Ezek a viharok ott voltak az egyházi élet mindennapjaiban is, a gyülekezetekben fellépő gondokban és az egyes családokat érintő problémákban. A vizitációs jegyzőkönyv olvasása és feldolgozása közben szinte megelevenedett előttem a majd 200 évvel ezelőtt élt ember mindennapja, hite, társadalmi beállítottsága, kérdései, harcai. Valamikor őseink mindent leírtak, válogatás nélkül. Jót és rosszat, szépet és visszataszítót, tökéletest és töredékest, méltóságteljes vagy gyalázatos eseteket is. A valóság tárul elénk ezekből a jegyzőkönyvekből. Olyan dolgok, amikre büszkék lehetünk és sajnos olyanok is, amikre egyáltalán nem vagyunk büszkék.

Ezeket a jegyzőkönyveket abban a reményben dolgoztam fel, hogy az átörökített anyag majd hasznos információként fog szolgálni a jövő nemzedék lelkészei és gyülekezetei számára. Eddigi tapasztalataim és meggyőződésem abba az irányba tekint, mely szerint minden egyes falunak vagy egyházközségnek jellegzetes arca van, melyből kitűnhetnek azok a fegyelmi és erkölcsi kérdésekkel foglalkozó ügyek, amelyek időnként újból és újból felütik fejüket.
