Dogmatics is not a static whole, systematic reflection on Christian faith. It is itself part of history and participates fully in it. Sometimes, even colleagues in the theological faculty still have the idea, that dogmatics is a field that pretends that God can be fully comprehended, that everything can be explained. Some might even think that the best theologian is the best believer. That is certainly not what we imagine that dogmatics is all about. It is a reflection on practices of faith, on the actual relationship with God, informed by the Bible and the teaching of the Church. Sound reflection on the Christian faith is a task that has to be done by every generation. Sheer repetition of what former generations said and wrote would be irresponsible. Every age is confronted with new challenges. The promise of the Holy Spirit should encourage us to fresh reflection.

Ma már senki sem olvas könyvet. Hát még egy 900 oldalas dogmatikát? (Nemrég egy angol nyelvből lefordított ezeroldalas regényt olvastam. Több mint három hónapig tartott az elolvasása, pedig rendkívül érdekfeszítő volt.) Mielőtt túl gyorsan nemet mondunk erre a kérdésre, szögezzük le azt a tényt, hogy ezt a könyvet – bár még a kezünkbe sem került – már legalább kilenc ember ismeri, forgatta: négy erdélyi református lelkipásztor fordította, két másik határon túli lelkipásztor-tanár ellenőrizte, egy hetedik ember lektorálta, Visky Béla részletes előszót írt hozzá, és végül szerénységem kapta azt a feladatot, hogy itt most ismertesse. Tehát kilencen már olvastuk, és biztosan lesz még – nem kilenc, hanem kilencven, majd kilencszáz – további ember, aki olvasni fogja.

A tervezett előadás célkitűzése filológiai és tudományelméleti alapon megvizsgálni a dogma szó szemantikai mezejét, és az így nyert eredmények alapján tágabb összefüggésrendszerben szemléltetni a dogmatörténet és a dogmatika viszonyát. Vizsgálatunk során arra összpontosítunk, hogy felmutassuk: a rendszeres teológiának eme két ága (a szemantikai mező által meghatározott természetéből adódóan) hogyan mutat egy zárt, vagy bezáródófélben lévő földi rendszer felől az istenismeret végtelenül nyitott világa felé.

Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

This volume contains selected papers from the broader field of History of Christian Doctrines, and more specifically from Patristics and Reformation studies, but also from the border between them. Most of them were written in the academic year 2014-2015, during my MA studies in the field of Patristics at the Theological University of the (vrijgemaakt) Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, in Kampen. The main topic of the MA programme was the Baptism in the Early Church, therefore the most of these papers presents various aspects of this question. In the following few paragraphs I will present short summary of each paper from this volume.

Hogyan értelmezték az Újszövetséget a korai keresztyének? Ez alkalommal arról szeretnék röviden beszélni, hogy miképpen értelmezték és vitatták az 1Kor 15 egyik szakaszát a 2. és 4. évszázad között. Az 1Kor 15-ben Pál apostol Jézus Krisztus feltámadásával és a keresztyének végidőkben bekövetkezendő feltámadásával foglalkozik. Előadásomban ennek a fejezetnek a második felére, a 35-55. versekre fogok összpontosítani, amelyben az apostol a keresztyének feltámadásáról ír.

Eduard Böhl, a 19. század második felének tudós teológusa 1864-től 1899-ig volt a bécsi Protestáns Teológiai Fakultás Református dogmatikai tanszékének professzora. A Habsburg-kormányzat 1818-ban központi rendelettel tiltotta be a birodalom egész területén élő diákok számára a külföldi egyetemjárást, hogy ezzel az intézkedéssel akadályozza meg a német egyetemek liberális szellemiségének beszivárgását.

The purpose of this study is twofold. First, it sets the historical context in which Aphrahat wrote his Demonstrations and deals with the interesting relationship between his writings, ‘against the Jews’ and the Sassanian persecution of Christians. It also treats his refutation of the Jewish charges. Secondly, it addresses his ‘unique’ view of christology which is not in line with the Nicene decision concerning one aspect yet at the same time it is congruent with it. The paper also tries to point out that his view on christology was ‘unique’ but not exceptional in the Early Church.
