Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

This paper presents the doctrine on baptism in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus. From this presentation we learn that Theodoret presents in this work a multi-contextual image of the “all-holy” baptism. The divine origin of the sacrament determined Theodoret to offer it a special place within his theological system. This special place is expressed through the setting of the chapter concerning baptism as well: it is put between the soteriological Christology and the chapters concerning Theodoret’s eschatology, the latter being an introduction to the ethical chapters.

I invite the reader to take a journey into the theological world of two little treatises written by one of the most interesting ecclesiastical figures of the fifth century coming from the Antiochene tradition: Theodoret, Bishop of Cyrus.

Hazai teológiai neveltetésemnél fogva akaratlanul is ahhoz szoktam, hogy nálunk, ha nem is kiélezett, de valamennyire éles különbséget szokás tenni a gyakorlati és az úgymond elméleti teológia, illetve a teológia gyakorlati és elméleti oldala között. Így hát bizonyos fenntartással, rejtett kétkedéssel fogtam hozzá Walter Brueggemann Uttered beyond Fear – Isaiah 43:1–5, Mark 6:47–52 című prédikációjának tanulmányozásához. Bár tudomásom volt arról, hogy Brueggemannt nemcsak egyetemi előadóként és interjúalanyként lehet hallani, illetve olvasni, hanem igehirdetőként is, arra számítottam, hogy olyan szakkifejezésekkel teletűzdelt és a valóságtól a tudományos absztrakció fellegeibe rugaszkodott szakszöveggel lesz dolgom, amelyet csak illemből lehet prédikációnak nevezni, s amely attól lett igehirdetés, hogy történetesen nem egyetemi katedráról, hanem valamelyik templom szószékről hangzott el.

E nagyobb lélegzetvételű tanulmány a metafora jelentésalkotásáról szól. Nem kérdéses, hogy a teológiai kutatás és a szószéki igehirdetés, illetve a gyülekezeti szolgálat összefüggenek egymással. Mert ahogyan gondolkodunk a jelentésalkotásról, úgy értelmezünk, és ezzel máris a prédikációkészítésnél vagyunk. Ha pedig textusprédikációra törekszünk, akkor azt a szempontot követjük, hogy a bibliai szövegrész milyen jelentést, és annak milyen alkalmazását engedi meg; mert akik értelmeznek, azok a szöveg szolgái.

Negative Aspects in the Picture about יהוה. Approaches of Three Writers of Old Testament Theology. Different modes of interpretation drive to different conclusions. This study examines these differences in the works by W. Eichrodt, G. von Rad- and W. Brueggemann of Old Testament theology. The two former authors use the historical interpretation, while the third one is the representative of the rhetorical and narrative theology. The theme of Yahweh’s negative aspects is always a stumbling-block not only for laymen, but also for the scholars of theology. Differences deriving from interpretation are illustrated through three biblical examples: the heavenly scenes in 1Kings 22 and Isaiah 6, Saul’s story, and that of the Book of Job.
