However, this passage has some features that inspire to further study. These include seemingly pointless repetitions, tensions within the text and contradictions with other verses in the book of Genesis, which lead us to conclude that the text of the pericope in question has undergone significant changes over time. In this study, we will attempt to deduce possible textual layers and reconstruct the sources used, starting from the canonical text and working backwards in time.

Ugyanakkor tanulmányozni kívánom más – Kálvin közvetlen vagy közvetett hatása alatt álló – szerzők (pl. Béza, Bullinger, Dordrechti Kánonok) predestinációval kapcsolatos megjegyzéseit, gondolatait és azoknak a tudomány, illetve a vallás világában felismerhető hatását. Mindezeken túl szeretném feltárni a reformáció korabeli predestinációs tanok teológiai kulcsfogalmait, axiómáit. Tanulmányozni kívánom, hogy melyek voltak azok a külső és belső – személyes vagy tudományos – hatások, amelyek befolyásolták Kálvinnak az isteni eleve elrendelésről szóló tanát. Be szeretném mutatni, mit jelent Kálvinnál és az ő tanítására épült, abból rendszert faragó kálvinizmusban a predestináció, rövid történeti áttekintést is nyújtva.
