Through an exploration of the editions of the hymnal published in 1924 by Márton Pálffi, this study provides insight into the reverence for tradition surrounding the hymnal, as well as the arduous but unsuccessful efforts made by those aiming to rejuvenate it. Politics often encroached upon the life of the Church, evident in the evolution of the hymnal. The changes of political power and country borders, as well as the imposition of communist censorship, have also significantly influenced the Unitarian hymnal. Despite all efforts, errors persisted in editions published post-1989. This research endeavours to trace these changes across a century of history.

Acest scurt studiu aduce în atenție evoluția predării și practicii muzicale în cadrul colegiului unitarian din Cluj în perioada secolelor XVI–XIX. De la interdicția instrumentelor muzicale și a cântatului indecent la permisiunea treptată a practicii muzicale în incinta colegiului și introducerea predării muzicii, evoluția reflectă schimbările sociale și culturale din acele vremuri. Muzica a devenit, în cele din urmă, o parte acceptată și chiar integrată în viața colegiului, marcând o tranziție importantă în percepția și practica muzicală în colegiul unitarian din Cluj și comunitatea unitariană din Transilvania.

In his 1583 ritual entitled Agendarius, which was innovative in many respects in comparison to its Hungarian predecessors, Bishop Miklós Telegdi of Pécs, the administrator of the diocese of Esztergom, added sample-like sermons to the rituals of the administration of the sacraments accompanying the great turning points of life (viz. baptism, confirmation, wedding etc.). He was presumably guided chiefly by pastoral considerations. For the second edition of 1596 (published after Telegdi’s death), the editors added a second funeral sermon, clearly intended for a more educated, urban audience – judging from the scholarly Latin quotations and the general tone. A comparison of the structure and content of the two speeches provides useful conclusions as to what the ecclesiastical authorities of the time considered advisable to preach at the time of death to mourners lacking basic schooling and what to the more learned audience.

Francis David’s selected sermons were published by the printing press of Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár) in 1569. These sermons are structured in an almost identical way: biblical text, brief summary, lessons and the proper sermon. most of the sermons, which adhered very strictly to the explanation of the text, were probably preached in the court of John Sigismund, prince of Transylvania, while others at services and workshops for priests who came to the religious disputes. As modern readers, we might posit the likelihood that bishop Francis David held training courses for pastors to prepare them for propagating the antitrinitarian doctrines whenever they had the opportunity. This paper examines to what extent Francis David’s sermons can be considered miniature encyclopaedias or repositories of useful knowledge as were the sermons of the 16th century.

A 17. század utolsó, a 18. század első negyedének kiemelkedő alakjai közé tartozik Homoródszentmártoni Bíró Sámuel (1665–1721). Az erdélyi művelődés- gazdaság- és politikatörténetben is jelentős szerepet vállaló Bíró Sámuelt elsősorban Hídvégi Mikó Ferenc históriájának folytatójaként tartja számon a történettudomány. A magyar unitáriusok első főgondnokukat és az egyház nemes lelkű patrónusát tisztelik személyében.

Romániában egy teljes évtizedet kellett arra várni, hogy az 1989-es rendszerváltást követően a társadalmi nyilvánosság számára is elérhetővé váljanak az állambiztonsági szervek politikai jellegű, titkosszolgálati tevékenységből származó iratgyűjteményei. A politikai rendőrség (Szekuritáté) archívumaihoz való hozzáférést Romániában az 1999. december 7-én elfogadott és a Hivatalos Közlönyben december 9-én megjelentetett 187/1999-es számú törvény tette lehetővé.

E kötet ünnepeltje több könyvéből és tanulmányából is kiviláglik, hogy teológiai munkássága egy részét Ferencz József életének szentelte, s éppen ezért gondoltam arra, hogy a köszöntésére szánt tanulmányomat kedvenc kutatási területéről választom. Az ünnepelt Teológia és népszolgálat című művében alaposan elemezte a matuzsálemi kort megért püspök minden teológiai szakdiszciplínát felölelőmunkásságát, és ezért köszöntő írásomban Ferencz József életpályájának csupán egyetlen mozzanatához szeretnék néhány megjegyzést fűzni.

A 2014-es esztendő gróf losonci Bánffy Miklós emlékéveként marad fenn a köztudatban, az író, politikus, képzőművész születésének 140. évfordulóját ünnepelték határon innen és túl. De meg kell emlékeznünk elhunytáról is annak 65. évében. Ebből az alkalomból tesszük közzé dr. Ravasz László (1882—1975) református püspök gyászbeszédének kézzel javított gépiratos szövegét. Ez a Dunamelléki Református Egyházkerület Ráday Levéltárában őrzött hagyatékában maradt fenn.

Jelen munka az erdélyi ev. ref. egyházkerület állandó igazgatótanácsának megbízása folytán készült. Magában foglalja az egyházkerületnek történetét abból az időből, a mikor az egyházkerület még önálló országos egyház volt.
