Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

Pál apostol az 1Kor 15,20-ban azt írja Jézusról, hogy feltámadása által az „el-aludtak első zsengéje lett”, azaz az örök életre való feltámadás első példája. Az itt megjelenő ἀπαρχή kifejezés az aratás első termését jelöli, a leghamarabb beérő kalászokat. A 15. fejezetben az apostol a feltámadás folyamatát a vetés és az új növény növekedésének képével érzékelteti (36–37. versek). Ehhez a képhez zökkenőmentesen simul az első kalász, az újzsenge képe, amely mintegy a végeredmény felől utal a későbbi metafora értelmére. Feltűnő azonban, hogy az újzsenge bemutatása különleges szereppel bír az Ószövetségben, és külön ünnepként szerepel az egyik ünnepkatalógusban, 3Móz 23,9–14-ben. A Septuagintában itt az 1Kor 15-ből Jézussal kapcsolatban használt ἀπαρχή „újzsenge” kifejezést találjuk. Felmerül tehát a kérdés, hogy vajon nincs-e valamilyen mélyebb kapcsolat az ószövetségi rendelkezés és Pál apostol képes beszéde között?

This paper presents the doctrine on baptism in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus. From this presentation we learn that Theodoret presents in this work a multi-contextual image of the “all-holy” baptism. The divine origin of the sacrament determined Theodoret to offer it a special place within his theological system. This special place is expressed through the setting of the chapter concerning baptism as well: it is put between the soteriological Christology and the chapters concerning Theodoret’s eschatology, the latter being an introduction to the ethical chapters.

Isa 8:16 is considered a key reference regarding the formation of the book of Isaiah and the role of prophetic disciples in this process. This article argues, however, that originally this verse had a more limited significance. The instruction to which v. 16 refers is to be identified with vv. 12-15 rather than an early ‘book’ of Isaiah. The expression ‘the instructed ones’ (of YHWH rather than the prophet) is applied to the prophet’s audience. This term reflects Isaiah’s characteristic view of prophesying as an act of instruction and prophecy as a form of teaching, and it does not presuppose the existence of any prophetic school. The view that sealing the instruction would allude to preserving prophetic teaching for the posterity is discounted here in favour of understanding the symbolic act as a metaphor from the legal sphere refering to authentication, with no inherent temporal significance.

A tanítványság intézménye rendkívüli jelentőséggel bír az Újszövetség szempontjából. De vajon van-e valamilyen nyoma ennek az intézménynek a hellenista világon túl? Beszélhetünk-e tanítványságról az Ószövetségben? Játszott-e valamiféle szerepet az Ószövetség abban, hogy a tanítványság ilyen formát öltött a zsidóságon belül?
