The aim of this thesis is to examine the extent to which the elusive postmodern zeitgeist influences ordinary people's faith in God, their relationship to the church, and the congregational demands of the Christian church. It also seeks to answer how far the teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the influential theologian who was martyred during World War II, can respond to these congregational needs. The topicality of the paper lies in its aim to provide a systematic theological framework for Reformed congregational pastors and members, with the aim of providing them with a theoretical basis for confronting postmodern problems. One such problem may be the scepticism and relativism that is characteristic of postmodernism and that is present in the life of the average church member today. A further challenge for the church may be the change in postmodern language and the isolation of individuals from one another.

A Marosi Református Egyházmegye szinte a magyarok keresztyénné válása óta létezett. A reformáció idején két katolikus főegyházmegye területére terjeszkedett ki. Miután egy kisebb része levált, Marosszék szinte teljes lakosságának hirdette a protestáns szellemiségben az evangéliumot. A jelenlegi dolgozat azoknak szól, akik bepillantást szeretnének nyerni az erdélyi református egyház XIX. századi mindennapjaiba. Célom, hogy az olvasóval először megismertessem a Marosi Református Egyházmegye múltját. Az egyházmegye megalakulásának megismerése után megfigyeljük, hogy milyen rendszer uralkodott a XVIII-XIX. századi egyházmegyében. Ezt követően megvizsgáljuk, hogy mit jelentett az esperesi vizitáció és ki volt az esperes a XIX. században. Végül az 1821-es vizitációs jegyzőkönyvek segítségével hű képet kapunk egyes gyülekezetek örömeiről és nehézségeiről.

A dolgozatomat négy részre tagoltam. Az első rész egy bevezetést tartalmaz a korról, a kommunista korszak gazdaságáról és társadalmáról. A második részben az egyház és a magyarság helyzetét vizsgáltam meg. A harmadik részben a jegyzőkönyvek alapján azt elemzem, hogy milyen volt az Erdélyi Református Egyház belső helyzete, milyen fontosabb események zajlottak le az 1969-es esztendőben. A negyedik rész jegyzőkönyvek anyagát tartalmazza, amelyek alapján dolgoztam.
