The Textual and Redactional History of Genesis 46:8–27 -- Genesis 46:8–27 lists the names of those who went down along with Jacob to Egypt during the famine in Canaan. However, this passage has some features that inspire to further study. These include seemingly pointless repetitions, tensions within the text and contradictions with other verses in the book of Genesis, which lead us to conclude that the text of the pericope in question has undergone significant changes over time. In this study, we will attempt to deduce possible textual layers and reconstruct the sources used, starting from the canonical text and working backwards in time.

Wie die Hinterseite des Einbandes zeigt, hatte Köpeczi sein Stammbuch be-reits im Jahre 1771 angelegt, also während seiner Studienzeit an der friesischen Universität in Franeker, wo er am 18. Oktober 1770 als Student der Theologie ein-geschrieben worden war. Franeker war von Anfang an auch sein Reiseziel gewesen, als er im August 1770 seine Peregrinatio academica – vom siebenbürgi-schen Nagyenyed aus – angefangen hatte.

This paper is an expanded and somewhat more elaborated version of an earlier study in which I tried to give a general overview on the word-usage concerning the passion of Jesus Christ in the early Christian creeds. The purpose of this short paper is in part to give a comparative presentation of the sufferings of Lord Jesus Christ in the Western Creeds, and in part I also try to define the role of mentioning the name of Pontius Pilatus in them.

Megmutatkozik írói vénája, és jóllehet egy-két dolgozatában olyan témákat, kérdéseket vet fel konkrétan, amelyek a következő években született írásainak lényegi tartalmát képezik, legtöbbjük inkább csak látens módon jelentkezik. Érdeklődése nagyon eklektikus, eszményképe a kritikai hangvételű zsurnaliszta, a szárnyait bontogató irodalmár. Sorai a mindenhez értő és mindenhez az ifjúság megfellebbezhetetlen hevével hozzászóló bölcselkedőről tanúskodnak. A megalapozott ismeretek hiányára azonban van magyarázat. Még maga sem döntötte el pontosan, mi is az, ami tényleg érdekli. Sok mindenről hall az egyetemi előadásokon, sokat olvas, napirenden próbál lenni a világban zajló történésekkel, de kiforrott álláspontja még nincs.

In this short paper I would like to provide a comparative analysis of the passages concerning the passion of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Early Christian confessions (among them the Apostolic Creed1 as well), because these passages are frequently the source of theological misunderstanding and debates. The main question which urged me to do this research had occurred in relation with the Apostolic Creed. How do we say correctly: ‘I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell…’ or ‘I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered, under Pontius Pilate He was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended into hell…’? I shall try to answer this question by analysing the relevant passages of the creeds which were composed in the first six centuries.
