Acest scurt studiu aduce în atenție evoluția predării și practicii muzicale în cadrul colegiului unitarian din Cluj în perioada secolelor XVI–XIX. De la interdicția instrumentelor muzicale și a cântatului indecent la permisiunea treptată a practicii muzicale în incinta colegiului și introducerea predării muzicii, evoluția reflectă schimbările sociale și culturale din acele vremuri. Muzica a devenit, în cele din urmă, o parte acceptată și chiar integrată în viața colegiului, marcând o tranziție importantă în percepția și practica muzicală în colegiul unitarian din Cluj și comunitatea unitariană din Transilvania.

În acest eseu, îmi propun să conturez doctrina referitoare la întruparea lui Isus Hristos așa cum este reflectată în cele mai semnificative crezuri ale creștinismului. Totuși, pentru a înțelege evoluția acestei doctrine, voi începe prin a prezenta câteva imagini din lumea primelor declarații asemănătoare cu crezul care au apărut în perioada post-biblică.

Elhangzott 2023. február 16-án a Magyar Unitárius Egyház kolozsvári Vallásszabadság Házában megrendezett könyvbemutatón, ahol ft. Kovács István unitárius püspök üdvözlő szavai és az itt közölt bemutatás után dr. Bódis György igazgató-főorvos, az Erdélyi Múzeum-Egyesület alelnöke ismertette a könyv orvosi vonatkozásait, majd pedig a szerző beszélt a kötet keletkezéséről.

Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

Francis David’s selected sermons were published by the printing press of Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár) in 1569. These sermons are structured in an almost identical way: biblical text, brief summary, lessons and the proper sermon. most of the sermons, which adhered very strictly to the explanation of the text, were probably preached in the court of John Sigismund, prince of Transylvania, while others at services and workshops for priests who came to the religious disputes. As modern readers, we might posit the likelihood that bishop Francis David held training courses for pastors to prepare them for propagating the antitrinitarian doctrines whenever they had the opportunity. This paper examines to what extent Francis David’s sermons can be considered miniature encyclopaedias or repositories of useful knowledge as were the sermons of the 16th century.

A lelkészi szolgálatot vállalók életének kiemelkedő eseménye a lelkésszé avatás vagy népegyházi kifejezéssel élve, a papszentelés. A protestáns egyházak szóhasználatában megmaradt ugyan a lelkész- vagy papszentelés kifejezés, de a római katolikus egyház gyakorlatával ellentétben ez nem szentség, hanem az egyház által gyakorolt szertartás, ritus ecclesiasticus. Ebben a tanulmányomban az unitárius paprendelés (ordináció) gyakorlatáról, illetve a lelkészi oklevél és eskü szövegének változásairól értekezem röviden.

Theis paper analyses the concept of “imago Dei” based on the 6th answer of the Heidelberg Catechism. I chose this topic as it is one of the most controversial questions of systematic theology. If one browses through the dogmatic and ethical works written from the earliest period of Christianity to the most recent times, they will find a large variety of answers. All of these attempt to explain what the writer of Genesis meant by the expression na‘aśęh ’ ādām beṣalmenu kidemutenu. The Heidelberg Catechism deals with this topic in the 6th answer where the authors attested that God did not create the first human being godless and malicious. After stating that as a matter of fact, God created man according to his own image and likeness, the Catechism explains the term imago Dei in a twofold way: first, it seeks to define the inner content of the image and similitude of God, and secondly it expands upon the purpose of man given by God as the image of his creator within the creation.

This paper presents the doctrine on baptism in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus. From this presentation we learn that Theodoret presents in this work a multi-contextual image of the “all-holy” baptism. The divine origin of the sacrament determined Theodoret to offer it a special place within his theological system. This special place is expressed through the setting of the chapter concerning baptism as well: it is put between the soteriological Christology and the chapters concerning Theodoret’s eschatology, the latter being an introduction to the ethical chapters.

This paper was my MA thesis, and its topic is the reception of the teaching of the Church Fathers concerning the baptism in the 1559 edition of John Calvin’s Institutes. In this thesis, I try to unfold some of the factors that determined the way Calvin used the writings of the Church Fathers in formulating his doctrine of baptism. After presenting the patristic quotations related to the ‘theoretical’ theology of baptism, I will present the quotations and references that are related rather to the practice of baptism. Here I analyse the references regarding the doctrine of baptism coming from the Donatists, the problematic of emergency baptism and women’s right to baptize. Finally, I will present the references from Inst IV 16, dealing with infant baptism. In the last chapter of this study, I will try to summarize the conclusions of the research. I hope the reader will have a clearer image on Calvin’s use of the Church Fathers’ theological heritage on baptism in the Institutes.

A tanulmány leltár jelleggel felméri és bemutatja az unitárius egyháztörténet-írás eredményeit.

A Magyar Patrisztikai Társaság Elnöksége 2017-ben a Társaság XVII. éves konferenciájának vezértémáját a reformáció 500. évfordulója alkalmából az egyházatyák munkásságának kora újkori hatásában, recepciójában adta meg, a reformáció és az ellenreformáció korára egyaránt vonatkozóan. A témakiírás több szempontból is érdekes és fontos, de a patrisztikus kutatások horizontjáról mindenekelőtt azért, mert felhívja a figyelmet arra a jelentős szerepre, amelyet az   ókeresztény   szerzők   (elsősorban   a   latin   nyelvűek,   mint   Tertullianus,   Jeromos,   vagy Ágoston, de  a  keleti   atyák   is,   mint   például  Baszileiosz,  vagy   Aranyszájú   János)   művei játszottak a reformátorok  műveltségében, teológiájuk, gondolkodásuk  alakulásában,  és  az ennek szélesebb kontextusaként jelen lévő humanista műveltségben és filológiai-könyvkiadói gyakorlatban.

A 17. század utolsó, a 18. század első negyedének kiemelkedő alakjai közé tartozik Homoródszentmártoni Bíró Sámuel (1665–1721). Az erdélyi művelődés- gazdaság- és politikatörténetben is jelentős szerepet vállaló Bíró Sámuelt elsősorban Hídvégi Mikó Ferenc históriájának folytatójaként tartja számon a történettudomány. A magyar unitáriusok első főgondnokukat és az egyház nemes lelkű patrónusát tisztelik személyében.

E kötet ünnepeltje több könyvéből és tanulmányából is kiviláglik, hogy teológiai munkássága egy részét Ferencz József életének szentelte, s éppen ezért gondoltam arra, hogy a köszöntésére szánt tanulmányomat kedvenc kutatási területéről választom. Az ünnepelt Teológia és népszolgálat című művében alaposan elemezte a matuzsálemi kort megért püspök minden teológiai szakdiszciplínát felölelőmunkásságát, és ezért köszöntő írásomban Ferencz József életpályájának csupán egyetlen mozzanatához szeretnék néhány megjegyzést fűzni.

Háromszázhatvanöt évvel ezelőtt jelent meg Doce nos orare, quin et prædicare főcímmel az első magyar nyelvű kézikönyv az imádság- és prédikációszerkesztés módjáról. Szerzője a puritán eszmék első magyar hirdetője és képviselője, Medgyesi Pál (1605–1663). E jelentős kézikönyv megjelenésére és egyben szerzője születésének négyszáztizedik évfordulójára emlékezve kívánom feleleveníteni Medgyesi Pál homiletikai eszköztárát, s ugyanakkor megkeresni benne azokat az elemeket, amelyeket hasznosítani lehet 21. századi magyar református igehirdetésünk gyakorlatában. Meggyőződésem ugyanis, hogy prédikálásunkat nemcsak a modern lélektani és kommunikációtudományi kutatások eredményeire építve tehetjük jobbá, hanem szükséges megismernünk és alkalmaznunk azt is, amit hitvalló elődeink tanítottak az igehirdetésről.

Az unitárius lelkészképzés története összefonódott Kolozsvárral. Az 1557. évi tordai országgyűlés határozata értelmében és az ország rendjeinek egyetértésével Izabella királyné városi iskolát létesített a kolozsvári domonkosok, a marosvásárhelyi ferencesek és a váradi Mindenszentek kolostorában. Az óvári kolostorépületben működő kolozsvári tanintézmény fenntartására a királyné tett alapítványt 1557-ben, ezt fia, János Zsigmond is megerősítette 1562-ben. Az iskola vezetését a város plébánosára, Dávid Ferencre bízták, aki reformátori céljainak megfelelően a protestáns iskolát teljességgel az unitarizmus szolgálatába állította.

Ebben a tanulmányban számba vesszük azokat az ókori eretnekségeket, amelyeket Kálvin az Institutióban említ meg; bemutatjuk, milyen ismeretekkel rendelkezett Kálvin ezeket illetően; és megvizsgáljuk, hogy milyen céllal hivatkozott rájuk.

Az Öreg graduál 375. évfordulóján, a teljesség igénye nélkül, megpróbálom számbavenni azokat a kéziratos unitárius graduálokat, amelyek a korábbi évtizedekben elkerülték a kutatók figyelmét, és nem kerültek be az ismert bibliográfiákba. Írásom nem szaktanulmány, hanem kutatási beszámoló. A legfontosabb információkat ott, ahol elengedhetetlenül szükséges, a szöveg után, zárójelben közlöm. A kutatás nem valósulhatott volna meg Molnár B. Lehel levéltárnok önzetlen segítsége nélkül.
