‘‘Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion”. Diverse traditions in 1 Peter 5:8–9. The recent reevaluation of the Petrine epistles has significantly influenced the study of the interplay between text and tradition. Scholarly consensus suggests that the First Epistle of Peter is unparalleled in the New Testament for its reliance on tradition. This study explores the implications of this reliance, particularly in relation to 1 Peter 5:8–9. The paper aims to analyse the traditional depiction of the devil in 1 Peter, considering its significance and function within the text’s framework.

The aim of this thesis is to examine the extent to which the elusive postmodern zeitgeist influences ordinary people's faith in God, their relationship to the church, and the congregational demands of the Christian church. It also seeks to answer how far the teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the influential theologian who was martyred during World War II, can respond to these congregational needs. The topicality of the paper lies in its aim to provide a systematic theological framework for Reformed congregational pastors and members, with the aim of providing them with a theoretical basis for confronting postmodern problems. One such problem may be the scepticism and relativism that is characteristic of postmodernism and that is present in the life of the average church member today. A further challenge for the church may be the change in postmodern language and the isolation of individuals from one another.

Hazai református egyházunkat általában – szemben a nyugati egyházakkal – a hagyományokhoz inkább ragaszkodó, az újat óvatosan fogadó szemlélet jellemzi. Vajon mi van e mögött? Jól kipróbált értékek konzekvens vállalásáról, minden tőlünk idegen hatás higgadt megszűréséről beszélhetünk? Meddig mehetünk a hagyományainkhoz való ragaszkodásban, és mikor válhat ez a ragaszkodás a szükséges fejlődés kerékkötőjévé? Témánk időszerűsége vitathatatlan, s üdvös, jövendőbe mutató eszmélődés támadhat, nem is annyira az előadás, mint az azt követő beszélgetések által.

A könyvben megjelent tanulmányok jó része előbbi tanulmányok folytatása. Mivel a szerzőtől egyebet nem olvastam, teljes értékű, átfogó bírálatot felelősséggel nem mondhatok, de bizonyos vonatkozásokban határozott véleményem alakult ki. Ezt próbálom most összefoglalni.
