The Camel and the Eye of the Needle. This paper examines Jesus’ challenging statement in the Gospels about the rich entering the Kingdom of God, likened to a camel through a needle’s eye. We explore variations in this saying across the Gospels and consider interpretations aided by literary parallels from Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic sources. These examples highlight the “eye of a needle” as a metaphor for impossibility, contrasted with a large object like a camel or elephant. While the presented examples are post-biblical, the motif’s roots may be older. Regardless of the original animal (camel, elephant, or rope), Jesus emphasises God’s power compared to human limitations. This explains the disciples’ astonishment and Jesus’ reply: human limitations exist, but “with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27, Luke 18:27).

Dolgozatom végéhez érkezve úgy gondolom, hogy észlelhetővé vált a Te Deum laudamus kezdetű óegyházi tétel értékessége, annak teológiai mélysége, amelyet egyházunkban újra fel kellene fedezzünk. A munkám célkitűzése a Te Deum műfajának bemutatása, az abban rejlő teológiai vonatkozások ismertetése, illetve áthagyományozódásának módja a protestáns egyházakba – kitérve a magyar nyelvű reformátusok liturgikus használtára és néhány olyan alkalom felsorakoztatása, amelyen ez értékes óegyházi tétel szavain keresztül adtak hálát a Mindenhatónak.

Psalm-singing in the Community of Therapeutae Based on De vita contemplativa by Philo of Alexandria. The Therapeutae’s ascetic devotion is characterized not only by searching the scriptures, meditation and prayer but also by singing of hymns and psalms. Hymns were composed by the principals of the community, they were those who taught the community members to sing them and they continually enriched the hymnal with new ones. The Essenes’ and Therapeutae’s psalm-singing indicates first of all the common Old Testament origin. However these religious communities had different self-identity from that of the normative Jews and this identity required for a special psalm-poetry to be accomplished. The Therapeutae’s psalms remind us of the church psalm-tradition characterized, just like the Essene hymns, by responsive singing and refrains.

Ebben a dolgozatban Fil 2,6–11 Krisztus-himnusz etikai vonatkozásait vizsgálom a közvetlen szövegkörnyezet összefüggésében. Mivel a himnusz Krisztus útját foglalja össze a preegzisztenciától a kereszten való teljes megaláztatásig, majd a mindenek fölé való felmagasztaltatásig, az újszövetségi tudományt mind a mai napig intenzíven foglalkoztatja a következő kérdés: vajon Pál valóban példaként állított a gyülekezet elé Krisztust, és ha igen, milyen értelemben? Vagy másképpen kell értelmeznünk a himnusz és a közvetlen szövegkörnyezet kapcsolatát? A dolgozatban amellett érvelek, hogy a himnusznak konkrét etikai vonatkozási vannak. Az etikai értelmezési vonalat követve megállapítom, hogy a felvezető vers Krisztus indulatára, akaratára utal, s ebben az értelemben valóban példaként állítja a gyülekezet elé Krisztus magatartását: alázatát és engedelmességét. Végül a szövegkörnyezet és a himnusz közvetlen kapcsolódására irányítom ismét a figyelmet.
