Joseph, the father of Jesus, and Joseph, the son of Jacob. Observations on the Joseph figure in the Gospel of Matthew. The Gospel of Matthew (Mt) connects his texts with the Old Testament in various ways. Beyond the so-called reflexive quotations, Mt alludes to several Old Testament books and episodes with keywords, motifs, and compositional arrangement. This article investigates whether Mt uses a Joseph typology from Genesis in shaping his portrayal of Joseph, the father of Jesus. After a brief survey of the suggested links in this regard, the paper defines the concept of intertextuality at play here and evaluates the alleged parallels between the Joseph of Genesis and the Joseph of Mt. It seems that in the prelude, Mt presents his gospel as “the Book of the Genesis of Jesus Christ”, akin to a second Genesis.

The person of Abraham was not only of great importance to the Jewish people of the Old Testament, but he is also one of the defining figures of Christian culture. This is because the patriarch's attitude, which the sacred writer expresses in words in Genesis 15:6, was presented as an example to be followed for the chosen people in the past, and is presented to the Christian person today. This attitude, which Abraham showed towards God, is summarized in a single phrase: Abraham believed. Through the lens of the Old Testament, we will examine this expression more closely, and especially in the context of Gen 15:1–6, we seek the answer to our main question: What did Abraham's faith encompass?

Ábrahám személye nem csupán az ószövetségi zsidó ember számára bírt nagy jelentőséggel, hanem ő a keresztyén kultúra egyik meghatározó alakja is egyben. Ugyanis a pátriárka magatartása, amelyet a Genesis 15,6-ban a szentíró szavak szintjén juttat kifejezésre, követendő példaként tárult egykor a választott nép, és tárul ma a keresztyén ember elé. Ez a magatartás, amelyet Ábrahám Istennel szemben tanúsított, egyetlen kifejezésben tömörül: Ábrahám hitt. Az Ószövetség szemüvegén keresztül ezt a kifejezést vizsgáljuk meg közelebbről, és különösen a Gen 15,1–6 kontextusában keressük a választ fő kérdésünkre: Mit foglalt magában Ábrahám hite?
