Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

Although György Enyedi’s (1555-1597) posthumous exegetical masterpiece Explicationes (Cluj, 1598) did not contain any explicit statements on political thinking, his Hungarian sermons testify his theoretical interest towards political philosophy. The paper focuses on sermons 67, 68 and 184, wherein Enyedi formulates his version of natural law. Due to his antitrinitarian theological presuppositions and his philosophical anthropology deeply inherent in the former, Enyedi’s position does not match fully the standard versions of natural law of his time. on the one hand, Enyedi’s approach proves to be much more intellectual in character than the voluntaristic correction of Thomist natural law in Scholastic-Suáresian theory. on the other hand, the antitrinitarian dismissal of original sin as a chief anthropological motif results in differences from the protestant natural law tradition, as Melanchthon developed it in the 1530s.

This paper presents the doctrine on baptism in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus. From this presentation we learn that Theodoret presents in this work a multi-contextual image of the “all-holy” baptism. The divine origin of the sacrament determined Theodoret to offer it a special place within his theological system. This special place is expressed through the setting of the chapter concerning baptism as well: it is put between the soteriological Christology and the chapters concerning Theodoret’s eschatology, the latter being an introduction to the ethical chapters.

Dolgozatunkban arra a kérdésre kerestük a választ, hogy miért és milyen értelemben használja az Újszövetség az alvók, elaludtak, illetve az alvás képét a halottakra, illetve a halálra? Ez általános, közhelyszerű(nek tűnő) kép, amely nemcsak az ókori Keleten, a görög–római kultúrában, hanem feltehetően minden nemzeti mitológiában megtalálható, ezért könnyen arra a megállapításra juthatunk, hogy az Újszövetség is közhelyszerűen, minden különösebb teológiai intenció nélkül használja. Dolgozatunkban amellett érvelünk, hogy az alvás képe, amelyet az Újszövetség következetesen csakis és kizárólag a hívők (és ószövetségi kegyesek) halálával kapcsolatban használ, teológiai – és közelebbről eszkatológiai szempontból – nem lehet érdektelen, mellékes és semleges.

Ebben a tanulmányban majdnem húsz sírfeliratot1 mutatunk be a Kr. e. 4–3. és a Kr. u. 3–4. század közötti időszakból. Ez valójában csupán egy nagyon szerény mintavétel, ám még ez a szerény mintavétel is elég ahhoz, hogy ne csupán a képzetek és motívumok sokfélesége és gazdagsága lepjen meg bennünket, hanem a különféle képzetek egymás melletti és egyidejű létezése, illetve a képzetek és motívumok századokon átívelő továbbélése is.

Egyházunkban, a gyülekezetekben való tanításra, a Jelenések könyvének értelmezésére is, egyházunk felhatalmazott szolgái illetékesek hitvallásunk szabályai mellett. Ez azonban nem zárja ki, sőt meg is kívánja, hogy híveink saját maguk lelki épülésére Anyaszentegyházunk értelmezését és tanítását megvizsgálják és e tanításokban minél teljesebben gyarapodni igyekezzenek.
