The aim of this thesis is to examine the extent to which the elusive postmodern zeitgeist influences ordinary people's faith in God, their relationship to the church, and the congregational demands of the Christian church. It also seeks to answer how far the teachings of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the influential theologian who was martyred during World War II, can respond to these congregational needs. The topicality of the paper lies in its aim to provide a systematic theological framework for Reformed congregational pastors and members, with the aim of providing them with a theoretical basis for confronting postmodern problems. One such problem may be the scepticism and relativism that is characteristic of postmodernism and that is present in the life of the average church member today. A further challenge for the church may be the change in postmodern language and the isolation of individuals from one another.

Bármely korban találkozunk a veszteséggel, amely minden esetben megrázó, fájdalmas, valamint nehézségekkel jár, és így krízishelyzetet okozhat. Nem lehet rá felkészülni, csupán megtanulni idővel együtt élni a fájdalommal, a hiánnyal. Minden esetben válsággal jár, magával a gyász krízisével, és függetlenül attól, hogy az ember felnőtt vagy gyermek átéli a folyamatot. A gyász okozta fájdalmat mindenki megérzi. A felnőttek esetében általánosan kijelenthető, hogy könnyebb a gyászfolyamat, hiszen elfogadják az „élet rendjét”. Vannak esetek, amikor a felnőtt sem tudja feldolgozni az őt ért veszteséget, viszont megvannak az „elődöktől örökölt szokások”, rítusok, amik segítenek együtt élni a veszteség fájdalmával. Lelkigondozói szempontból is sokkal több eszköz és módszer áll a rendelkezésükre a segítés céljából. 

Dolgozatunkban nem az angyalok, hanem az angyali életmód kifejezéssel jelzett kérdéskört vizsgáljuk az ókori egyház időszakában – eredetét, előfordulásait, különböző vonatkozásait. A kifejezés nyilvánvalóan az aszkézis gyakorlatát folytató szerzetesi közösségek tagjaival kapcsolatban jelent meg a legtöbb esetben.
