The Impossibility of a second repentance in the Epistle to the Hebrews. We have argued in this assignment for an interpretation of the impossibility of a second repentance, which is neither entirely psychological, nor is to be understood and complemented by inferences from Greco-Roman patronage, but it is an inherent impossibility, having in its background a theological argument: so splendid is the revelation of God in Jesus Christ, that turning away from it in apostasy is a way that excludes any chance for a second repentance.

Vocation and Mission in the First Three Gospels. Jesus’ calling and ministry was chronologically followed by the vocation and election of the disciples. The calling and election happened in accordance with Jesus’ and the Father’s sovereign will. The story of the disciples’ vocation shows several resemblances with the stories on the calling of the Old Testament prophets, especially with the calling of Elisha by Elijah. The Twelve abandoned their occupations, homes, relatives, in one word everything immediately after the calling. Above all they had to give up their own lives, to share the master’s destiny. The writers of the synoptic gospels with no exception recorded the list of names of the apostles. The number of the disciples is symbolic because Jesus laid claim upon all the twelve tribes of Israel. Through his disciples Jesus gathered God’s old-new people for salvation. Their selection was done out of a larger circle of disciples.

Die Schöpfung der Welt. Die Schöpfungserzählung der Bibel war und ist auch heute ein Diskutionsthema, nicht nur für die Theologie, sondern auch für die Realwissenschaften. Kann man die zwei Forschungsresultate miteinander in Harmonie bringen? Oder soll man sie ganz voneinander trennen und sagen, dass die Bibel eine Frage des Glaubens ist und mit der wissenschaftlichen Forschung und deren Theorien nichts zu tun hat? Diese Publikation versucht die verschiedenen Interpretationen des Textes darzustellen und gleichzeitig zeigt sie auch eine andere Art den biblischen Text zu lesen. Das ist die literarische Interpretation des Textes. In dieser Interpretationsart bekommt der biblische Text eine neue Dimension, der nach der biblische Text nicht nur eine einfache Glaubensfrage, sondern ein solches literarisches Werk ist, in dem der Verfasser theologisch den ganzen Werdegang dieser Welt beschreibt.

By the Sound of a Great Crowd. In this short writing our purpose is to examine the problems of translation and interpretation of Jeremiah 11,16. In this biblical verse the word hmlh has many possibilities of translation. After a short presentation of the biblical background I will examine the Hungarian, English, German, Dutch, French, Greek and Latin translations of this biblical verse, and finally I will present my own translation. At the end of this paper I am going to draw a parallel between the meanings of this image in the Old and New Testament. The Hebrew dictionaries given many meanings of the word hmlh: roaring sound, tempest and crowd. The LXX renders the word hmlh by circumcision, which is grammatically impossible. Hieronymus translates it with loquella, which means speaking. In Calvin’s Latin translation we read sermo, and in an additional note tumultus. In the German translations we can read große (Kriegs-) Getöse, ein großes Geprassel, Mordgeschrei.

God’s blessing. In this short writing our purpose is to set forth the meaning and the biblical roots of the blessing in the Christian liturgy. Many people consider that the blessing is the final action of the Christian worship. Furthermore we witness the depreciation and trivializing of the blessing. But having analysed the meaning of the Greek, Latin and Hebrew words we have to state that blessing is not the final action of the liturgy. Blessing is not the end, but the beginning of the Christian worship. By the blessing God’s name is pronounced over the children of Israel (Numbers 6,27). The history of the world and of mankind has started with God’s blessing. God’s blessing gives us the possibility to maintain our life and to lead a pious life.

Die Aufgaben unserer siebenbürgischen Exegese. Bei der Prüfung der exegetischen Probleme in ungarischer Sprache weist die Studie einerseits auf die Wichtigkeit der Kenntnis und der Darlegung der Vergangenheit heimischer exegetischer Literatur hin. Sie zeigt auch wie die Aufgaben zu lösen sind. Anderseits zeigt sie die Wegsuche der gegenwärtigen exegetischen Tätigkeit, betont besonders die Notwendigkeit einer Kommentarserie, die sich auf das ganze Neue Testament erstreckt.

A Makar(i)ological Introduction to the Book of Psalms. The Notion of Happiness as 'ashrey in the Book of Psalms. The title of this short study is a double allusion: partly to the character of notiondefinition – not so much the scientific purpose as the biblicity is emphasized by using logical as an attribute – and partly to the viewpoint of text-interpretation – the makar(i)oticity of the Psalms-analysis. Nevertheless, the compiler does not offer more than some introductory remarks, suggesting further reflection upon that variously designated something, which concerns everybody and which is most commonly understood as “happiness”.

Die erste Nummer der Reformierten Rundschau, die als offizielles Blatt von dem Siebenbürgischen Reformierten Kirchenbezirk herausgegeben wurde, war am 10. Januar 1908 erschienen. Die seit 100 Jahren fortlaufend erscheinenede Zeitschrift wollte von Anfang an die Aufgaben einer kirchlichen Presse erfüllen. Sie beschäftigte sich ausführlich mit der Vergangenheit des Kirchenbezirks,mit aktuellen Fragen und formte die kirchliche öffentliche Meinung.Sie diente als Mittel für die Sicherung der intellektuellen Verbindung zwischen jenen,die mit Wort und Schrift im Dienst der Kirche standen und hielt die Fackeln des Glaubens und Wissens aufrecht. Ab 1960 veröffentlichte die Reformierte Rundschau immer mehrere Studien.

The role of group work in teacher education. This essay deals with the role and importance of psychological group work with special regard to teachers’ professional development. In the last few decades a new view of the way teachers should be educated emerged, in which more attention was directed towards the person of the teacher. The real self image and self-knowledge is important for religion teachers when we take into account that they are especially expected to be empathic, authentic and able to accept the others. After we had investigated that the actual curriculum of the Faculty for Teachers of Religion provides hardly any programmes which aim to develop students’ selfknowledge, we tried to work out a programme which would help the healthy development of students’ personal and professional self.

Die Zukunft der strategischen Praxismodelle und der kirchlichen Institutionen. Wir haben mit Hilfe der Reformatoren (J. Calvin und M. Luther) Kenntnisse über die Lehre der kirchlichen Institutionen gesammelt. Wir haben auch die Theorie der Institutionen und die Systemtheorie von N. Luhmann kritisch berücksichtigt und auf die heutigen Probleme der kirchlichen Institutionen angewendet. Die sozialethische Orientierung von Alfred Jäger hat uns geholfen, die heutige kybernetische Praxis der Kirche unter die Lupe zu nehmen. Diese Kenntnisse haben wir auf die Entwicklung des Managements der institutionalen Strukturen angewendet. Wir haben dadurch die Entwicklung und Konkurrenzfähigkeit der kirchlichen Institutionen veranlasst, damit sie in dem Zeitalter der Europäisierung stärker werden können.

Evangelisation through reformed eyes. This study was presented at a small conference of reformed and catholic theologians. The presentation of evangelisation through a reformed prism is underlined by thoughts of great reformed predecessors. There are five points, all presenting a different aspect of this question. The first treats the fashion of evangelisation. Because of the fact that evangelisation, as a term is not firmly identified, using different slogans and dealing with evangelisation as a fashion could be dangerous. This is why a good definition with the approval of all Christian churches is needed. Another important thought of this first point is the fact, that evangelisation is not new, by no means a fashion, it is only the submission to an ancient, biblical command of the great mission.

Sándor Tavaszy der Prediger (1888–1951). Sándor Tavaszy wird als Philosoph-Theologe und als Professor der Theologie in Evidenz gehalten. Das ist damit zu erklären, dass er in keiner Gemeinde als Pfarrer gedient hatte. Er war Philosoph, Professor der Theologie, ein Mensch der Kirche und der Öffentlichkeit mit Verantwortung. Unsere Versäumnis wird nachgeholt, wenn wir aussprechen,dass seine ganze Arbeit im Zeichen des mühevollen Ringens um die Verkündigung des Wortes geschah. Der Prediger Tavaszy wird in allen über ihn geschriebenen Schriften nur tangential erwähnt, oder gar verschwiegen. Es ist Zeit, dass man auch auf diesen Bereich seines Lebenswerkes aufmerksam gemacht wird.

The Possibilities of Spritual Care by Means of Story-telling in the Early Childhood. The first part of the essay describes the development of little children, with special attention to their spiritual growth, then we study the possibilities of pastoral counselling by storytelling (understood as a collective action), and the effect of the stories on the children’s thinking. In the second part of the essay – after a comparative analysis of a story and a bible-story – a few practical pieces of advise follow for pastors and counsellors, who deal with little children, advise on possibilities of preventing spiritual problems at such a sensitive age.

Die Torheit der Predigt Die reformierte theologische Ausbildung in Siebenbürgen legt den Schwerpunkt ihrer Vorbereitung auf die Verkündigung Gottes Wortes. Trotzdem folgt nach der theologischen Ausbildung keine Reflexion auf die Predigt. Es gibt kein Predigerseminar oder ein anderes Forum, wo alle Fragen über die Predigt besprochen werden könnten. Dass die Verkündigung des Evangeliums ein notwendiger Dienst ist, damit sind alle Pfarrer einverstanden. Die Wichtigkeit der Predigt wurzelt in dem missionarischen Befehl Jesu. (Mk16,15–16) Aber in der sich ständig ändernden Welt ist es notwendig immer wieder die Frage zu stellen: wer, wem, was und wie predigt? Wer eine solche Untersuchung beginnt, der muss auch das Leben und den Dienst der Prediger grundsätzlich analysieren. Während dieser Untersuchung erscheint unvermeidlich die vernachlässigte Problematik der Seelsorge der Pfarrer. Ein bestimmender Faktor der Predigt ist die Gemeinde.

Psalm-singing in the Community of Therapeutae Based on De vita contemplativa by Philo of Alexandria. The Therapeutae’s ascetic devotion is characterized not only by searching the scriptures, meditation and prayer but also by singing of hymns and psalms. Hymns were composed by the principals of the community, they were those who taught the community members to sing them and they continually enriched the hymnal with new ones. The Essenes’ and Therapeutae’s psalm-singing indicates first of all the common Old Testament origin. However these religious communities had different self-identity from that of the normative Jews and this identity required for a special psalm-poetry to be accomplished. The Therapeutae’s psalms remind us of the church psalm-tradition characterized, just like the Essene hymns, by responsive singing and refrains.

Ideal und deformiert Europäische Modelle in der Vergangenheit und heute. Der Author betrachtet und erwägt die Lage der reformierten Kirchenmusik.

Was ist gemeinsam in der Liturgie und in dem Fußball? Die liturgische Wegsuche ist seit Jahrzehnten die Eigenheit der ungarischen Reformierten. Die Kirche zentral und oft die Pastoren individuell versuchen an der bestehenden Lage einiges zu ändern. Hingegen ist die rechte Lösung weder eine radikale Reform der derzeitigen Liturgie noch die Möglichkeit der freien Wahl einer Variation der vorgeschriebenen Liturgie, sondern das Verstehen des Gottesdienstes und das Aneignen der liturgischen Spiritualität. Es musste die im kirchlichen Dienst gespielte Rolle der Liturgie (Liturgie als zentrales Geschehen) umdeutet werden.

Die äußere Erneuerungsabsicht und die äußeren, erneuernden Kräfte muss sich mit unserem inneren Erneuerungsanspruch treffen. Es reicht heute nicht festzustellen, dass der geschichtliche Protestantismus an einer Relevanz und Identitätskrise leide und in Agonie verfallen sei, und dann darüber zu sprechen, was das bedeute. Nein, wir müssen aufbrechen in Richtung Erneuerung, in Richtung konkrete Reformation.

The Problem of Suffering in the Holy Scripture. Suffering is one of the universal problems of mankind. Generally saying, everybody suffers to some extent in a part of his or her life. Corporal suffering has a great influence ont he state of mind, and vice versa. We are searching the reason, the purpose the suffering in human experience, in philosophy and in the same way in the Holy Scripture. In this study the author makes an attempt to lighten the answers of the Bible in the following problems: the different kinds of suffering, the origin and the purpose of it, the problem of the substitute suffering, the Servant of the Lord, the sufferings of Christians and of the Church, the human behaviour under suffering, the blessing of it; the suffering, which leads to death and finally: the suffering in the salvation counsel of God.

Die theologische Beurteilung der Erinnerung und des Vergessens. Der Fragenkreis der Erinnerung und des Vergessens wird in der Heiligen Schrift – abgesehen von einigen Ausnahmen – nicht in seiner psychologischen Bedeutung dargestellt. Alle mit der Erinnerung und dem Vergessen verbundenen menschlichen Tätigkeiten, die zwar anthropologischen Charakter haben, sind Glaubenstätigkeiten, die ihren Sinn in der Gott – Mensch-Beziehung erhalten. Die Aufforderung zur Erinnerung ist ein solcher Befehl, der die Tätigkeit des jeweiligen Christen bestimmen muss. Die Erinnerung ist die Ausübung des Glaubens: in Demut, Gebet, Gastfreundlichkeit, Diakonie, Liebe und Achtung einander gegenüber. Sie ist die missionarische, seelsorgerliche und kathechetische Aufgabe einer Fest begehenden Gemeinde. Sie ist ein ethischer Imperativ, doch reicht sie über alle Moraltätigkeiten hinaus, weil sie ihren Sinn und Inhalt nicht von den menschlichen Beziehungen, sondern vom ewigen Gott erhält.

„Wir sind von Gott erkannt“. Einführung in die Theologie Miskottes. Kornelis Heiko Miskotte, geboren 1894 in Utrecht. Dort studierte er auch Theologie. Pfarrer in der Niederländischen Reformierten Kirche, zuletzt (1938–1945) in Amsterdam. 1945–1959 Professor für Dogmatik und biblische Theologie an der Universität von Leiden. Wichtigere Werke: Das Wesen der jüdischen Religion, Edda und Thora, Biblisches ABC. Sein Hauptwerk ist: Wenn die Götter schweigen. Über den Sinn des Alten Testaments (1959). Er starb 1976. In seinem Buch: »Biblisches ABC« spricht Miskotte davon, daß wir unsere eigenen Urworte beim Lesen der Bibel mit hineinbringen, obwohl diese unsere Urworte in der Schrift überhaupt nicht vorkommen. Diese Worte sind: Ewigkeit, All, Natur, Religion, Persönlichkeit, Tugend und Ideal. Unsere europäische, vom Christentum geprägte Kultur ist, im Grunde genommen unbiblisch.

Mit ausgestreckter Hand nach den Geheimnissen… Anmerkungen am Rande der Theologie von K. H. Miskotte. Der niederländische Theologe, Kornelis Heiko Miskotte ist einer der einflussreichsten Theologen seiner Zeit gewesen, der die Theologie Karl Barths auf eigenständige Weise bearbeitet und weitergedacht hat. Seine Theologie ist auch heute eine Quelle der Impulse für den modernen Theologen. Die vorliegende Studie hat sich als Ziel gesetzt, die Theologie Miskottes, wenigstens in ihren Hauptlinien darzustellen, bzw. deren Konsequenzen für die ungarische reformierte Theologie aufzuzeigen. Die Arbeit gleidert sich in drei Teile und eine Einleitung. In der Einleitung sagt der Verfasser, warum er der Meinung ist, daß die Theologie Miskottes heute noch relevant und wichtig für die Menschen des 21. Jahrhunderts sei.

The Missiological [re]Interpretation of Abraham’s Offering, As a Potential Paradigm-Shift in [post]Modern Philosophical and Theological Reasoning. Consideration has to be taken in new view of the striking and in many ways mysterious and scandalous narrative of Abraham’s offering his son, Isaac on the mountain of Moriah. It was with Kierkegaard that this Old Testament story came to the forefront of philosophical investigations. The Danish philosopher marvelled on the obedience of the Patriarch in not even wavering (although certainly accepting the deadly burden of the angst which entails this action) to act without really understanding why Yahweh has asked for such a terrible sacrifice.

The Relationship of the Eucharist and Reconciliation in the Didaché. The author analyzes the relation of the Eucharist and reconciliation through one of the well-known writings of the Early Church – The Lord’s Teaching to the Nations Through the Twelve Apostles. Christianity has evolved from Judaism, and despite many differences there are still numerous similarities, overlaps as the feast, liturgy, prayer, Holy Communion and the renewal of the covenant. The meaning and content of the Eucharist went through several changes during the history of the Church, and differences of opinion on this point exist even in our days. The Eucharist is an important part of Christian faith which lives in the Parousia, through this Christians are in ongoing relation with the resurrected Lord. As a result of the reconciliation of Christ, the participation of Christians in the Eucharist enforces their relation to each other.
