Valentinus and His Teaching in the Light of Modern Research and Ancient Christian Heresiology -- The first part of this paper contains a summary of the life and teachings of Valentinus written by Bernadett Szűcs, in which the author sketches the most important aspects of this complex topic based on the early Christian primary sources harmonized with the state of the modern research. As an appendix to this introduction, the second part of this paper, written by György Papp contains the first Hungarian translation (accompanied by the original Greek text from the recently published critical edition) of one of the primary sources with a short introduction, to the text: the chapter about Valentinus in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus.

A vallás nem megoldás. A vallás a probléma maga! – hangzik korunk vallás-kritikájának tenorja, amely világunk, s benne életünk, szabadságunk és békességünk veszélyeztetettségét és fenyegetettségét a fundamentalista vallási meggyőződés számlájára írja. Valóban, egyrészt nem kevés azon megnyilvánulások száma, amelyekben félelem tükröződik a vallásokkal, különösen az iszlám fundamentalizmussal szemben, amely egy isteni vagy vallási tekintély nevében abszolút engedelmességet és alávetettséget követel, s ennek eléréséhez az erőszak alkalmazásától sem riad vissza. De már az újkori vallási fundamentalizmus előtt is közkedvelt narratíva volt, hogy a vallás és politika szimbiózisa, illetve a reformáció által kiváltott konfesszionális ellentétek és brutális vallásháborúk csak pusztulást és romokat hagytak maguk után az öreg kontinens társadalmaiban.

This paper presents the doctrine on baptism in the Haereticarum fabularum compendium of Theodoret of Cyrus. From this presentation we learn that Theodoret presents in this work a multi-contextual image of the “all-holy” baptism. The divine origin of the sacrament determined Theodoret to offer it a special place within his theological system. This special place is expressed through the setting of the chapter concerning baptism as well: it is put between the soteriological Christology and the chapters concerning Theodoret’s eschatology, the latter being an introduction to the ethical chapters.

E tanulmány célja nem az, hogy eldöntse az olvasó helyett a kérdést: milyen típusú isten volt kezdetben JHWH? Hanem hogy a bemutatott argumentumok alapján hozzásegítse az olvasót saját véleménye kialakításához, illetve a bibliográfia segítségével megkönnyítse a további kutatást. Az első fontos felismerés az, hogy az ókori Közel-Keleten és az Ószövetségben is nagyon tág az „isten” fogalma. Minden, amely meghaladja az im-manens szférát, már a mennyeihez tartozik, és istennek tekinthető. A mi istenfogalmunk más logikára épül, és ez megnehezíti vizsgálódásunkat.

Az ótestamentumi történetek közül Ábrahám áldozata az egyik legismertebb elbeszélés. Az elbeszélés tulajdonképpeni témája a hit próbája. A próbát jelentő gyermekáldozat kérdése nemcsak a kananeita eredetű judaista hagyományban található meg, hanem a görög mitológiában is. A Trója ellen hadra kelt görög sereg nem tud elindulni a szélcsend miatt. Előbb ki kell engesztelniük Artemisz istennőt Iphigeneiának, Agamemnon fővezér lányának feláldozásával. Az apának gyötrődései ellenére is meg kell hoznia ezt az áldozatot a cél érdekében, de a szörnyűség végül mégsem történik meg, mert Artemisz kicseréli a leányt egy szarvassal.

Canaanite Abominations as Presented in the Book of Deuteronomy. A Theological Evaluation. Before entering in the Promised Land the people of Israel were told not to follow the forbidden practices of the polytheistic nations (Deut 18, 9–14), to avoid all kinds of magical and superstitious practices designed to discover the will of gods, or even to compel the gods to action in certain ways. The occult, superstitions, divinisation, sorcery, spiritualism were abominations all to Yahweh and brought about His judgment. Yahweh made His will known through revelation, by the aid of His prophets, whose words would be clearly understandable to the people in contrast with the ambiguous and mysterious spells of those who worked with magic and divinisation. Israel must be blameless in regard to every form of divinisation, magic or spiritism.
