A jézusi erkölcs kompromisszummentessége elutasítja mind az önző, önfenntartó impulzusokat, mind pedig azt az ösztönös önvédelmet, amely másokkal szembeni agresszióval hoz létre különböző egyéni és politikai felépítményeket. Ezen a ponton feltehetjük magunknak a kérdést, hogy mennyire alapozhatjuk a jézusi tanításra keresztyén kultúránk politikai eszközök útján történő védelmét? Nyilvánvaló, hogy lelki és társadalmi nyugalmunk szempontjából egy keresztyén alapokon álló nemzetpolitika értéke felbecsülhetetlen számunkra. Ennek ellenére, nagyon óvatosan kell a keresztyén minősítést használnunk az önkonzerválás folyamatában, hiszen Jézus etikai tanítása éppen a földi biztonságtól és komfortzónánktól próbál bennünket elmozdítani. Ebben a gyakorlatban pedig számítanunk kell a kötődéseink elszakadásával és hagyományaink szétmorzsolódásával is…

In his 1583 ritual entitled Agendarius, which was innovative in many respects in comparison to its Hungarian predecessors, Bishop Miklós Telegdi of Pécs, the administrator of the diocese of Esztergom, added sample-like sermons to the rituals of the administration of the sacraments accompanying the great turning points of life (viz. baptism, confirmation, wedding etc.). He was presumably guided chiefly by pastoral considerations. For the second edition of 1596 (published after Telegdi’s death), the editors added a second funeral sermon, clearly intended for a more educated, urban audience – judging from the scholarly Latin quotations and the general tone. A comparison of the structure and content of the two speeches provides useful conclusions as to what the ecclesiastical authorities of the time considered advisable to preach at the time of death to mourners lacking basic schooling and what to the more learned audience.

My study approaches Unitarian sermon literature from the perspective of church discipline. There are several reasons for this: 1) Historical records of reception are scarce because in the early modern age, only a handful of Unitarian sermons could be published. 2) it was uncommon among Unitarian preachers to use theoretical works (ars concionandi/praedicandi) until the end of the 17th century, they learned instead by observing the written and oral practices of their colleagues. 3) Because of the medium of the manuscript, most early modern Unitarian sermons did not survive beyond the 17th–18th century. Therefore, in our exploration of the rules and ideals of sermon literature as well as the attitudes of followers, preachers, and schoolmasters to the genre, we are forced to rely on inferences based on the norms, especially the offences recorded in (ecclesiastical) court protocols.

Theis paper analyses the concept of “imago Dei” based on the 6th answer of the Heidelberg Catechism. I chose this topic as it is one of the most controversial questions of systematic theology. If one browses through the dogmatic and ethical works written from the earliest period of Christianity to the most recent times, they will find a large variety of answers. All of these attempt to explain what the writer of Genesis meant by the expression na‘aśęh ’ ādām beṣalmenu kidemutenu. The Heidelberg Catechism deals with this topic in the 6th answer where the authors attested that God did not create the first human being godless and malicious. After stating that as a matter of fact, God created man according to his own image and likeness, the Catechism explains the term imago Dei in a twofold way: first, it seeks to define the inner content of the image and similitude of God, and secondly it expands upon the purpose of man given by God as the image of his creator within the creation.

This volume contains selected papers from the broader field of History of Christian Doctrines, and more specifically from Patristics and Reformation studies, but also from the border between them. Most of them were written in the academic year 2014-2015, during my MA studies in the field of Patristics at the Theological University of the (vrijgemaakt) Reformed Churches in the Netherlands, in Kampen. The main topic of the MA programme was the Baptism in the Early Church, therefore the most of these papers presents various aspects of this question. In the following few paragraphs I will present short summary of each paper from this volume.

A tanulmány célja bemutatni az 1Móz 1,26-ban olvasható kijenetés (teremtsünk embert a mi képünkre és hasonlatosságunkra) héber és görög szövege közötti kapcsolatot.

Az esszé (1) elején a "tolerancia" rövid történeti összefüggésben jelenik meg, és különbséget tesz a tartalom és a formális tolerancia között. Ezt követően az ősi Kelet - vallási-történelmi összefüggésben - vallási toleranciáját írják le (2-3). Az alábbiakban (4) bemutatjuk a toleranciával ma értelmezett interperszonális viselkedést. Az ötödik fejezetben az "Izrael külföldi országokban" (6) "Az idegen Izraelben" cím alatt szerepel. Az utolsó részben (7) röviden összefoglaljuk a témát.
